All You Need is to Be Happy

_DSC0436This past weekend we got a chance to visit Familia Moja Children’s’ home located in the outskirts of Mangu, Gatundu North constituency. Just as the name of the home suggests, there is a sense of family bonding within the children despite the different backgrounds they all come from. During our visit we also got a chance to interact with Form Four students from St.Francis Mangu who had coincidentally visited the home as well. We did various chores together as we mentored them and encouraged them to work hard and join Strathmore University. Two of our members had the following to share from their experience at Familia Moja…

Marley once said that “The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively”. Each activity with COP is an opportunity we have to make friends, to reach out to the society, to give back and most importantly to restore hope, show love and spread joy and happiness. Interacting with the children and seeing the smiles on their beautiful faces as we played along with them gave me a source of fulfillment for we made sure our presence was felt by them and we were sure our day was a great success. “Let us always meet each other with smile, for the smile is the beginning of love” Mother Teresa. ~George Muchiri~

_DSC0439It is said that one should have zero expectations in order to be happy. When we left for Familia Moja, I had zero expectations despite it being my first COP activity. I wanted to enjoy and be in the moment and basically just be happy. I can’t deny that I was super excited cause of all the possibilities I could imagine of. Needless to say I had so much fun meeting with the kids, washing their clothes, doing the dishes, cooking for them and playing games with them. It’s so true that we look for joy and happiness in far fetched places when all we ever needed to be happy is right before our very eyes. The whole experience reminded me how it’s so easy to get so caught up in your own life that you forget to appreciate all you have. There’s actually more to life than getting what you want. There’s the giving part. It’s humane and it doesn’t require so much of us. COP is a family that I’ve been made a part of that I’d want to keep from now on. ~Nevyll Naserian~
