I Met a Community of Change Makers

MartinsThe beauty of humanity endears itself in the little nuances and gestures of concern to the lonely, the destitute and downtrodden. When you bump into a community of change makers such as Strathmore Community Outreach Programme, your life changes and you begin to see life through a lens of compassion.

My first experience with COP was the outreach at Brydges Center located in Isinya, Kajiado county this past weekend, and what I felt was an immense gesture of empathy from a vibrant, energetic, concerned and fun group of students willing to make and be the change to those who need it the most. Being a newbie, the feeling of being the new kid on the block quickly dissipated with individuals who made it their business to engage with me and soon I became a part of the team before the driver could engage his gear past Ole Sangale roundabout, it felt like I had been part of the COP family for the last three years!

Balancing a lot of responsibilities like school, work, family, friends, hobbies, and the like, we get lost in the mundane and we forget what is most important. We are here for each other, to make sure that somebody’s today is better than yesterday. That is our call, our core at the essence of it all, to make a difference. The smallest difference to your friend, neighbor and above all to somebody who cannot pay you back, who should not pay you back.

COP in the words of one of the members, IS MY LIFE!
