About the ProgrammeThe World Council of Credit Unions, along with the Strathmore University, has developed a comprehensive training program for senior management staff, aspiring managers and board members. SWAMI is designed to give SACCO board members and management the inside track in achieving career success. Both board members and management students will come together and take a series of courses, which prepare them to handle the challenges SACCOs face in today’s changing environments. The management students will come in on Monday to begin their course of study, then the board member students will join them later in the week. In some cases they will be learning together in a joint classroom setting. SACCO ManagementThe course designed for SACCO senior management staff and those aspiring to be managers, will run for six days per tier and the curriculum includes modules on financial management, marketing, information technology, PEARLS, governance, and the development of budget, business and marketing plans. Students will take a test at the end of each module to measure their comprehension and understanding of the topic. Each student will also complete a budget and business plan and will present the plans in a final presentation with board members at the end of the program. SACCO Board MembersThe course designed for the SACCO board members will run for two days in tiers one and two, and four days in tier three. The curriculum includes the modules on governance, financial management, credit, marketing, information technology, and understanding budget, business and marketing plans. Board members will also complete exercises and tests on certain modules. Certification/Awards ProgramAn awards program/graduation will be held at the end of the third tier of the SWAMI recognizing all of the students for completion of the program. A pin and a Strathmore certificate will be given to each student that successfully completes all of the required course work. The University’s dress code prohibits the wearing of jeans, t-shirts, sports shoes, and slippers. Decency and modesty should be observed at all times. Cancellation PolicyIf received, in writing, at least ten days before the program, SWAMI will refund your registration fee minus a 10% charge. A 20% fee will be charged for those who cancel after this. Substitutions are allowed if executed before commencement of the course.
