The art of leadership for modern day Teacher Training Colleges (TTC) principals involved not only knowing how to run their institutions efficiently but the ability to: shape ideas; manage resources in a people friendly way, foster an exceptional work ethic, operate within the law and lead teams to great achievements. These were some of the issues tackled during a Teacher Enhancement Programme (TEP) held for TTC principals at Strathmore University from October 31 to November 3 2005.

Various facilitators drawn from Strathmore University's most experienced academic fraternity made presentations and led discussions on Principles of financial management and accounting; The role of the head; The legal framework for financial management in Kenyan schools; The ideal principal; College managers and the law; Managing resources in a people friendly; Work ethic; Team leading; Budgetary planning and control and Executing and recording financial transactions
At the end of the programme, participants concluded that the role of an educator is to offer service to mankind and those outstanding college leaders are skilled at creating strong, committed teams that can help lead their Colleges into the forefront of educational growth and development.
TEP which is run by Strathmore University's Institute of Humanities Education and Development Studies (IHEDS) offers two courses ‘Teacher Self Image' for teachers and the "Art of Leadership" for Principals and Head Teachers. It started off in 2002 with the institute running a series of short 3-day courses for teachers. The goal of the programme is enhance the Kenyan teacher's sense of identity as a contributor to the moral fiber of the nation.
