SWAMI
Mr Patrick Khaemba, PS Ministry of Cooperative Development and Marketing, chats with Dr Charles Sotz, University Secretary. Looking on is Dr Ruth Kiraka, Director, ICE and Mr Patrick Shabaya, Academic Registrar
On Saturday 16th June 2007, 17 participants of the Strathmore-WOCCU African Management Institute (SWAMI) graduated in a colourful ceremony presided over by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Cooperative Development and Marketing, Mr Patrick Khaemba. Mr Khaemba while congratulating the participants challenged them to implement the lessons they had learnt and also tell others about SWAMI. He noted that the SACCO movement in Kenya was the most vibrant in Africa and that its professional management was key to economic growth in the country and continent as a whole. He also pledged the government's continued support to the SWAMI programme especially with regard to publicizing the programme nationally.

The World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) continues to support the partnership and market SWAMI to other African countries.  WOCCU was represented by Catherine Ford and Cassie Rademaekers, both Program Managers based in Madison, USA, and Erick Sile, Program Manager based in Nairobi. Also present was a key supporter of SWAMI, Mr. Rick Myxter of the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association.  The ceremony was held at Strathmore University.

The next SWAMI course will run on 5th – 10th November 2007.
