Holy Mass Celebrated in Honour of the Founder

Saturday 25th June 2005 will remain a special day in the history of Strathmore University. It was the first time Holy Mass was celebrated in honour of St. Josemaria at the University's campus in Madaraka estate in the new graduation square. St. Josemaria Escriva, who was canonized by the late, Pope John Paul II, on 6th October 2002, was the inspiration and promoter of Strathmore University. He lived in Rome and although he never visited Kenya he followed Strathmore's early steps very closely until his death in 1975.

The main celebrant at the Mass was the retired Bishop of Meru Diocese, His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Silas Njiru with about 2,200 people attending. They included many staff members, students, parents, alumni and friends of the University.

The new graduation square worked very well for the occasion. The weather was pleasant which facilitated the festive atmosphere of the day. At the end of the Mass, many people stayed behind talking to friends and appreciating Phase II of our campus, which was recently completed thanks to a grant of the European Union. People are looking forward to our graduation ceremony that will take place in the same venue on 26th August 2005.
