Mr Isaac Mwangi, the Strathmore University Sports Officer presented a paper titled "Positional Assessment of Selected Skill Related Physical Fitness Components Amongst Male Kenyan Basketball Players" in the 2nd World Congress in Sports Management that was held on June 7th – 10th 2007 in the Greek city of Sparta.
The congress brought together sports managers, scientists, and students among other stakeholders to discuss the trends in the area of sports management and performance. Over 30 countries were represented by the 500-plus participants.
The key note speaker was Professor Trevor Slack from the Department of Physical Education and Recreation, University of Alberta, Canada. He presented a paper titled "Evolution for the Academic Field of Sports Management, Current Trends and Future Directions".i
The congress played host to renowned individual experts and sports associations which included, The Hellenic Olympic Academy, International Olympic Committee (IOC), Secretariat General of Sports, Hellenic Sports Editors, Ministry of Education and Sports - Greece, International Basketball Federation (FIBA), International University Sports Federation (FISU), European Association of Sports management (EASM), North America Association of Sport Management (NAASM), Sport management Association of Australia and New Zealand (SMAANZ) and University Sport Federations in the area of sport management to discuss various topics.
Among the topics discussed included athletics sponsorship, management of sports organizations, sports facility management, legal aspects in sports, university sports management, sports management and globalization, sports management and new technologies, public relations in sports, managing mega sports events, basketball, and violence in sports among other selected topics.
This congress was hosted by the University of Peloponnese's Department of Sports Management under the auspices of the President of Greece.
