  Glorious weekend for SU teams
Blades
Kennedy Maru dunks his team to victory
Blades, the men basketball team; Leos, the rugby team; and Strath FC, the soccer team all registered significant victories over the weekend. To confirm that their first leg victory against the fancied University of Nairobi Mean Machine in the Kenya Cup was no fluke, Leos beat Mean Machine 28 - 8 in a match played before a capacity crowd at the Nairobi School. Leos won the first leg match 17-15 at the Mean Machine grounds.

In soccer, Strath FC beat a hard fighting Real Kisumu with a solitary goal from Rogers Kusimba who delivered a low shot from a cleverly delivered back heel pass to beat the Kisumu keeper in the first half at the University grounds on Saturday, 23rd August. In the second both teams played a defensive game. The nationwide league match attracted a huge crowd from the neighbouring Madaraka Estate.

The following day, Strath FC were at home again against Longonot Horticulture. The free flowing game ended 4-2 in favour of Strath FC. Michael Owiti of Strath FC opened the scoring with a 25 yard low shot in the first half. Longonot replied with a goal from their prolific striker Fred Kamau.

The home boys stepped up their game and twice James "Junior" Kombo placed the ball behind the net from well executed set-pieces. In the second half, Longonot came back into the game strongly and got a second goal. Strath FC responded by extending their lead by adding a goal from John Omoit who converted a well delivered cross to send the Longonot FC goalie the wrong way.

Blades beat their arch-rivals Java Warriors 62-61 in a hotly contested match at the Nyayo Stadium Gymnasium on Saturday. Coach Tonny Ochieng praised his boys for their strong character. On Sunday, Blades were at it again and using their strong forwards and point guards beat ICC 77 - 69 in a match played at the same venue.
