Strathmore University is building a Kshs2.8 million Shrine to the Holy Family at its campus, in a corner near the auditorium. Construction began in February and it is expected to be completed in September. The fund raising is nearly complete, but for some pending pledges and donations.
The Shrine has been possible through the generous contributions of the members of the University Council, plus many staff members and friends. Many initiatives have been undertaken by staff members to help us raise the funds in the last few months. Among the donors, the previous ambassador of Chile, His Excellency D. Pedro Undurraga, deserves a special mention, as his was by far the greatest donation.
The Prelate of Opus Dei, who is also the Chancellor of SU, blessed the images in his recent trip to Nairobi in August 2006 when he visited the University. He gave the exquisite images which depict the Holy Family's flight to Egypt. Thus some people have called the shrine of the Holy Family in Africa.
"The building looks simple but a lot of money was used to excavate the site of black cotton soil which was 3 metres deep," said Mr Luis Borrallo, SU's Director of Advancement.
It is expected that, once completed, many staff, students and their friends will go to the shrine for pilgrimages and personal visits to entrust to the Holy Family in Africa their prayers and intentions. |
