Strathmore Research and Consultancy Centre (SRCC) SRCC will conduct an NGO assessment and mapping research in Nairobi. The exercise will be funded by the Rockefeller Foundation to the tune of $70,000. It will seek to establish an inventory of institutions working on urban issues that relate to the poor with specific emphasis on those working informal settlements. This research will commence in November 2008.

"The research will target NGOs working on issues such as but not limited to water and sanitation, housing, land tenure, health, urban agriculture, education, micro-credit, micro-insurance, the environment, the arts and culture and most recently climate change, conflict resolution and communication across generations," says SRCC's Managing Principal, Mr Paul Maina.

The research will also collect and collate institutional information relating but not limited to roles, functions and responsibilities, organizational structure, financial resources, human resources and level of expertise, inter-institutional linkages, relevance, importance and impact of the institution in the field of urban informal settlement.

Using this information, SRCC will develop an institutional mapping consisting of a set of charts, graphs, schematic representations, flow diagrams, descriptive tables, etc - as needed - showing the information collected for the different institutions and their linkages.

"We aim to help the participating institutions discover their capacity deficits and map with them a way forward to strengthening their capacities," Mr Maina said.
