It was drama, song and dance at the new Strathmore University (SU) auditorium on February 26, as the University held its premiere concert. The 500-seat auditorium was filled to capacity by students, staff and guests, most of whom had booked their tickets in advance to make sure they didn't miss out.
They were all treated to typical Strathmore University hospitality — a warm welcome and refreshments (drinks and a finger dinner) — before settling down for a riveting evening that came to an end at 10pm.
Performing were the SU Choir, the SU Drama Society, the duet of Evelynne Mutura and Gacigi Kungu, the sensational Kayamba Africa and the scintillating Suzanne Owiyo. Among the guests were several members of foreign embassies, including the Spanish Ambasssador to Kenya, Annibal Jimenez Abascal and his wife, and a good number of Strathmore Alumni.
The event was a fund-raiser for much needed electronic and sound equipment for the auditorium. The Dean of Students Ms Fina Desouza described the event as “successful beyond expectations.” We would like to thank Savani's Book Centre, Servicescope, Odds and Ends, Alka Sounds, Copy Cat, and Safeways Meats, some of the organisations that sponsored the event, for their support.
