Choir performs at National Music festivals
National Festivals
Strathmore Choir
Four months after their invitational tour of South Africa, the University's Kilele Choir was in the lakeside city of Kisumu for the 2008 Annual Kenya National Music Festival. The higher education category was held between 10th and 14th August. The two-week long festival held in several venues across the city saw lots of new talent emerge.

Kilele scooped several top awards. Laban Cliff Onserio retained the solo performance category title that he won in 2007 in Nakuru Town. In a hotly contested female Soprano solo category Lynn and Eunice finished second and third respectively.

In the set-piece category, Kilele choir saw off stiff competition to finish second behind Kenyatta University. In the Open-class solo category on the final day, Kilele registered two entries: one of the entrants was the University Choirmaster Albert Apela the 7- time Solo Bass winner. The other was Julia Wanjiru.

With 7 titles behind him and a wealth of experience, Mr Apela trounced stiff competition from universities and teacher's colleges to take away the winner's trophy. Julia who performed an advanced music piece by Handel came second.

Mr Apela and Kilele chairman Mike Kagwanja said that they were impressed with the performance of the choir at this year's festival and lauded the choristers for a job well done.
