The late Catherine Musyimi was laid to rest on Saturday, 31st March at Kuindwa village, Mwingi District. Speaking on behalf of the family, Catherine's father, Joseph Mulyungi paid tribute to her forthrightness.
He also expressed his gratitude to the university for the support it had given his family. SU staff to the burial was led by Dr Florence Oloo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs and Mr. Martin Wanjohi, Director ICT Services, where Catherine worked. SU chapel choir led the singing during Mass and at the graveside. About 90 members of staff, from all departments, travelled to her funeral. About 600 people attended the Mass celebrated before the burial.
Brief Bio
The late Catherine was born in the greater Kitui on 14th January 1973. She attended Kitui Central Primary School between 1980 and 1987. Between 1988 and 1991, she attended Mary Hill School in Thika. She joined Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) in 1993 and graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree in 1997.
She worked at Infotech College from 1998 until 2002 when she joined Strathmore as a lecturer in the then Information Technology Centre (ITC). She moved to ICT department later.
Late last year and early this year, she attended some ICT training in Italy. She was also about to finish her Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at University of Nairobi.
Catherine suffered a fracture on her leg on 17th March 2007. The leg was put on cast. She was getting along well until the night on 25th March when she got unwell suddenly. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Mater hospital. Post-mortem revealed a blood clot on the pulmonary vein. It is suspected the clot originated from the fracture.
