Strathmore University hockey team lifted the Kenya Hockey Union men's National League 2006 title in style after stunning Mvita 4 – 1 in a hotly contested final. Following the feat, Strathmore have earned promotion to the Premier League and a ticket to represent Kenya in the regional club championships next year. Strathmore better known as the "Gladiators" had earlier on led in the regular league standings only losing one game to Mvita.

The team finished in first position in the regular league to qualify for the play offs where in the semi finals they beat Mombasa Institute 7 – 2 to qualify for the finals. Under the stewardship of coach Eric Shiahale, the team showed consistent dedication and discipline throughout the league that saw them qualify to the premier league in their maiden appearance in the National League.
