The Management Board of Strathmore University has appointed Dr Freddie Acosta as Coordinator of the School of Graduate Studies. The School of Graduate Studies will coordinate and oversee graduate education in the University. By September 2006 Strathmore will launch Master of Commerce (MCOM) and another one in Information Technology (MScIT). Other Master programmes will be started in January next year, including Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Master in Computer-Based Information Systems (MCIS) and Post Graduate Diploma in Education. Doctoral studies are soon to be be carried out at the University.
Dr Freddie Acosta, originally from the Philippines, holds the following degrees: Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (1993) from Mapua Institute of Technology, Master in Business Administration (1998), Master in Business Education (2001) and Doctor of Philosophy (2004). To update his technical skills, he also enrolled and finished some core units in Master of Science in Information Technology (1997) from Saint Louis University and Master of Science in Computer Science (2000) from University of the Cordilleras. |

His previous teaching experiences include stints at the University of Baguio College of Engineering and Architecture, the Lyceum of the Philippines College of Engineering, Mapua Institute of Technology School of Electrical, Electronics and Communications and Computer Engineering, Olivarez College Department of Computer Science where he taught IT and Management courses. He was once the head of the departments of computer science and computer engineering at the University of Baguio. He joined Strathmore University in June 2004.
He is actively involved in research and has written several research papers including The Comparative Effectiveness of PBL Method and Lecture Method in Teaching Advanced Database Systems; Understanding Digital Divide: The Case of Strathmore University Freshmen Students; IT Strategic Plan of Olivarez College; and IT Strategic Plan of Tangaza College. He is also actively involved in the Case Writing Project of the IFC-GBSN initiative where he wrote and taught many cases for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). |
