Are you interested in Google and its activities in Africa? Do you dream
of developing an application for consumers globally? Are you ready
to compete in an exciting, new Google™ challenge?
Google looks forward to meeting you on Monday, February 25, when we'll
introduce ourselves and officially launch the East Africa Google Gadget
Competition. Eligible university students from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda,
Rwanda, Burundi, and Ethiopia can design and build gadgets to win
prizes. Gadgets are small, simple applications that run on web pages.
There are gadgets for easy email access, gadgets for football results,
gadgets for fun and gadgets for frivolity. They're simple to develop, given
some knowledge of HTML (and ideally XML and Javascript too). And
they're easy to distribute – through iGoogle™ (Google's personalised
homepage), platforms such as OpenSocial™ and third-party websites.
There are tens of millions of people who use gadgets globally, generating
billions of gadget pageviews per week!
The competition will run between February 25 and July 14, 2008. More
details, including developer resources and how to register, can be found
at: www.google.co.ke/eagadgetcompetition.
