Celebrating 50 years of Opus Dei in Africa
St Josemaria
St Josemaria Escriva, Founder of Opus Dei
On 25th August 2008 we will be celebrating 50 years of Opus Dei in Kenya and in Africa. The first members of Opus Dei came to Kenya and in Africa on 25th August 1958. These are the people who started Strathmore.

Opus Dei was founded on 2nd October 1928 by St Josemaria Escriva. He taught that everyone can reach holiness and become a saint by doing ordinary work well and offering it to God. St Josemaria sent the first members of Opus Dei to Kenya to start Strathmore.

Thus the 25th of August is a very important day to the SU community.  To celebrate these years, there will be many activities in the university notably an Essay competition, a photo gallery of St. Josemaria at the chapel foyer, thanksgiving rosary to be recited from 18th to 22nd at 1.10pm, the launch of the Kevin O'Byrne scholarship fund (O'Byrne was one of the three gentlemen who came here in 1958. He died in May at 74 years of age) and a thanksgiving Mass on 25th August.

The Essay competition is open to all students. The Essay should not be more than 1000 words long. The title of the essay should be: “How my studying at Strathmore has impacted my life”.

We would like to invite you to participate as much as you can and join us in giving thanks to God for all we have had in the last 50 years.
