Strathmore University men's hockey team, the Gladiators, is the 2007 KCA University hockey tournament champion. The team captained by Haggai Pepela trounced their premier league arch-rivals Kenya Police 3-1 in post match flicks after a one-all draw in normal play time.
A number of top flight hockey sides participated in the tournament held at the KCA Ruaraka campus on 15th and 16th September. The Gladiators are currently top in the Hockey Premier league.
Gladiator's international Frank Wanangwe opened the score board with the fastest goal of the season after 51 seconds of play. The gladiators went ahead to unleash a series of attacks to the Kenya Police goal but the experienced police defence kept denying the Gladiators a chance to extend their lead.
It was until two minutes to end of normal play that the Police side managed to level the score through Corporal Wanyonyi. The match was then decided by flicks (penalties). Frank Wanangwe, Fidel Castro Khaluna, and Bramwell Lijodi scored one each. Strathmore's goalkeeper Collins Asimba who was the game's most valuable player (MVP) saved two of the Kenya Police flicks.
