A memorial Mass for Bishop Álvaro Del Portillo was held in Strathmore University's Chapel on March 11, 2005.  The mass was concelebrated by Fr Robert Lozano, Fr Anthony Munyoz and Fr Gabriel Mureithi.

Don Álvaro was the first successor of Saint Josemaría Escrivá as the Prelate of Opus Dei.  He visited Strathmore University in March 1989.  There were a number of Alumni of the University and their families and friends who attended the Mass.

The current Prelate of Opus Dei is the Chancellor of the University.
