Deputy Prime Minister Hon Musalia Mudavadi (left) presents a trophy to Cellulant CEO Mr Ken Njoroge who scooped the first prize in the Top 100 mid-size Company of the Year award
Ken Njoroge, the CEO of Cellulant was named the best CEO of a medium sized company in a survey conducted by KPMG and Business Daily. Cellulant emerged as the best company in the survey. The survey results were released on Friday, 3rd October.

Ken enrolled for the IMIS course at Strathmore in 1996 after opting out the Pharmacy degree course he was pursing at University of Nairobi. He then made his foray into business when he teamed up with two partners to start an IT firm called 3Mice, a website design outfit.

Upon realizing that his partners no longer shared the long-term vision they originally had, he sold his shares in 3Mice and partnered with an entrepreneur from Nigeria to start Cellulant.

Ken is optimistic about doing business in Africa. "With a good proposal and persistence, start-up capital or money to expand a business is no longer a problem in the Kenyan market or Africa in general," he told Business Daily.

Cellulant is now a leader in the provision of content and commerce experiences on mobile phones in Africa. It has operations in Kenya, Nigeria and the UK and clients in Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, South Africa and Botswana. Its most visible business is provision of ring tones.

Ken is a regular motivational speaker at his alma mater. In November last year, he told youth from Kibera and Madaraka who had done a business course at the University that there is no quick money in business. He said one should not go into business looking for a quick buck. See: http://www.strathmore.edu/cop/activities.php
