Strathmore University basketball teams started off the season on the right footing in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) 2008 by registering crucial wins that served as a good morale booster for the new recruits in the teams.  Strathmore ladies team, the "Swords" beat KCA 39 - 16 before dismissing Daystar University 41 - 15.

Swords coach Sylvia Kamau said the team which was promoted to the Premier League this year after winning the Nairobi Basketball Association League last year showed quality in the two wins. The men’s team "Blades" beat Kenya Polytechnic 58 – 29 in a fast paced game played at Strathmore University. In the second game Blades overcame Daystar University 42 – 32.
