Strathmore Business School's (SBS) annual Strategic Leadership and Performance Management course was held on 28th-31st August 2007 at Hotel Intercontinental - Nairobi. The rigorous top-end course is aimed at both private and public sector leaders tasked with the role of ensuring strong performance in their organizations.

Four Strathmore University Staff members - three of them in the University's inter-departmental strategy committee - participated in the course.

The course provided a framework for linking strategy to performance using the Balanced Scorecard methodology. Participants learnt how to build their leadership abilities to achieve strategic results and how to manage individual talent and focused teams to achieve high performance in organisations.

Participants also went through the key concepts of the balanced scorecard, and why it is gaining so much attention in corporate and public sector organizations. They also learnt about some of the challenges and pitfalls of strategic management, and how to deal with them.

This year's programme assembled a unique international team, which featured local instructors including Mr George Njenga, the Director of SBS; and Dr Wahome Gakuru, Director of Kenya's Vision 2030 strategic plan.  Other facilitators were Mr Tom Pyle and Mr Paul Arveson who are affiliated to the Balanced Scorecard Institute in Washington DC.

SBS has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Balanced Scorecard Institute becoming the first institution in the region to enter into a partnership with the institute.
