Strathmore University "BLADES" are the 2005 Nairobi Basketball Association (NBA) champions. After a grueling league that started in May 2005 the Blades continued to show their intentions of capturing the league title through their consistent performance despite their tight academic calendar. The team lost only 4 games in the whole season and finished second in the league behind Kenya Christian Industrial Training Institute (KCITI) to qualify for the play offs. Strathmore University(SU) for the first time conferred Degrees to students taught and examined under the supervision of its own Academic Council. The ceremony began punctually with a colourful academic procession led by the Registrar of Academic who was carrying the framed Letter of Interim Authority which allow Strathmore to operate as a University. On 13th July 2005 the first shipment for the Strathmore Library Books Acquisition Campaign arrived at Strathmore University. This campaign was launched last month from State College, Pennsylvania, USA. A total of 16,686 books arrived in a 20 foot container. Saturday 25th June 2005 will remain a special day in the history of Strathmore University. It was the first time Holy Mass was celebrated in honour of St. Josemaria at the University's campus in Madaraka estate in the new graduation square. St. Josemaria Escriva, who was canonized by the late, Pope John Paul II, on 6th October 2002, was the inspiration and promoter of Strathmore University.
