Evelyn Kamagaju Rutagwenda

Mrs Evelyn Kamagaju Rutagwenda, Rwanda's Auditor General and Chairperson of the Interim Governing Council of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Rwanda (ICPAR) won the 2008 ACCA Global Achievement Award for Africa and the Middle East, alongside Anna Orlia Chifungula from Zambia.

Mrs Rutagwenda has been the Auditor General of Rwanda since July 2004. She graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Makerere University in 1981. She then attended Strathmore’s School of Accountancy between 1983 and 1986.  She became a Certified Public Accountant (Kenya) in 1986.

The ACCA Global Achievement Awards recognise individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of the accounting and finance profession. Awards are based on merit and given to individuals whose contributions deserve global recognition and whose efforts reflect ACCA's core values of accountability, diversity, innovation, integrity and opportunity.

Mrs Rutagwenda has been a pillar of support for young accountancy professionals in Rwanda. For her award and her support, she was feted by ACCA and ICPAR on 7th February at the Serena Hotel in Kigali.

"It is our earnest hope that the achievements of Evelyn Kamagaju Rutagwenda will be emulated by our members and students and that this award will serve to encourage and impassion others in this regard," said John Nyakahuma, Head of ACCA’s Corporate Department in Eastern Africa.

Mrs Rutagwenda is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya, and a founder member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda. She is married with two children.
