Welcome to the Strathmore Governance Centre, an academic unit dedicated to promoting interdisciplinary research into all aspects of Institutional Governance, one of the key challenges of contemporary society.
In carrying out its projects and research the Centre emphasizes the need for empirical data and analysis, academic teamwork, intellectual depth, originality, constructive criticism and practical solutions.
Aware that problems of government and governance cannot be solved by technical knowledge alone, the Centre gives particular importance to humanistic values and ethical principles that should guide knowledge and, indeed, permeate the strategy, direction and execution of all governance procedures and activities.
Contemporary development of institutional governance has shown that there cannot be true development without ethical principles capable of giving true guidance and meaningfulness to technical knowledge. This is the way to true integrity and transparency. In this regard, the Centre is interested in identifying and promoting African values relevant to governance. The Centre welcomes collaboration with other institutions and individuals who seek positive and convincing answers to the pressing social problems of today’s world. The Centre will organize Experts Meetings, Colloquia, Seminars and Workshops around its ongoing research activities. The Centre is also committed to the publication of its most significant findings and to undertaking appropriate educational and training programmes in the future.
