Ms. Yvonne Machira
Yvonne Wangũi Machira is a Researcher in Public Health with a particular interest in integration of Operational Research methods in health interventions and services along with research in the specialities of Health Economics and Health Promotion. Ten years’ growth in the profession, and building from work experience in Kenya, Botswana and Uganda, has led to development of high-level technical skills and considerable understanding of research in several sectors including Environmental Health, Child and Reproductive Health, and Clinical Medicine. She also has considerable knowledge of and experience in research ethics and has served on the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) in Kenya.
Yvonne’s training is in Public Health, with a Master of Science in Public Health (MPH) and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Public Health (PGD PH) both from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) with her foundation being an Honours degree in the Social Sciences of Sociology and Philosophy from the Kenyatta University. Until February 2011, Yvonne worked as a Researcher for several multi-national NGOs following which she founded and incorporated a private research company, Tafiti Research Group Limited. She is currently working on research projects with Strathmore University, the World Bank and the Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH).
