In line with Strathmore University’s mission, the Governance Centre seeks to conduct research that defines the means and measures of good institutional governance and provides solutions in addition to critiquing bad practices, thereby promoting the improvement of governance.

The Governance Centre strives to become a leading research centre in institutional, social and ethical development, with a reliable Resource Centre at the service of society and other organizations working to improve institutional governance in Kenya and in the East African region.

The main strategic goals of the Governance Centre include promoting interdisciplinary research in the different fields identified and producing innovative workable ideas. To achieve this, the activities of the Governance Centre are grouped into two:

Research

• Recruiting academically qualified and socially committed Associate Researchers
• Working diligently at raising the necessary funds, both locally and abroad, for all our projects with the aim of building up an endowment fund for research in Governance that will allow us to be self-sustaining in the future
• Making our research findings accessible online and in print
• Working with researchers and other stakeholders at translating workable findings into solutions for reform
• Publishing a Journal

Education

• Organizing interactive Expert Meetings, Colloquia and Workshops
• Offering training sessions in ethical governance for small groups
• Offering a Masters Programme in Governance
• Interacting with Governance Centres in other universities
• Offering the possibility of internship at the Centre for students and junior researchers

The new Centre hopes to stimulate a spirit of hope in matters of governance in the East Africa Region. We are keen to work with likeminded local and international organizations, scholars and those seeking research collaboration in our chosen project areas as highlighted on our website. We assure those who fund our projects that we will be transparent and accountable in all our financial dealings. We are guided solely by the ambition to draw attention to good governance practices and a desire to provide sustainable solutions to social problems in Kenya and Africa as a whole.
