Our Mission
SGC seeks to promote good governance in the public, private and civic sectors of the Eastern African region by carrying out research and analysis on governance issues, by facilitating dialogue within and across those sectors, and by identifying educational needs and developing appropriate tools and programmes to meet those needs.
Activities
1. Research
- To collect, analyze, publish, disseminate and make available data and information on all aspects of governance in the public, private and civic sectors of the Eastern African region, with a particular, though not exclusive, focus on regional and indigenous issues and topics;
- To undertake a special ongoing research project focusing on the relationship between governance, or lack thereof, and development in all sectors related to health, education and welfare;
- To house a world-standard Library and Governance Resource Centre available for the use of institutions, public and private organizations, and local and international scholars, with a specific, though not exclusive, focus on issues related to governance in Africa;
- To develop methodologies of measuring and reducing the financial and human cost of misgovernance;
- To develop case studies that highlight best practices in governance by identifying successful institutions and organizations in the region with the aim of assessing, analyzing and promoting locally applicable good governance practices;
- To support institutions and organizations seeking to improve governance by undertaking research, data collection and analysis on their behalf;
- To develop benchmarks and guidelines for governance reform;
2. Dialogue and Exchange
Facilitating dialogue, exchange and learning within and across the public, private and civic sectors by:
- Organizing forums (conferences, seminars and workshops) to share experience;
- Dissemination of information through our website and publications to stimulate discussion and share knowledge.
3. Education
Developing relevant academic and training courses and programmes in governance (e.g. a Masters degree in Governance and Ethics) |
