Dr Ruth Kiraka is a senior lecturer at Strthmore University. Her main responsibilities are lecturing in business related subjects especially entrepreneurship skills development and strategic management. Dr. Kiraka completed her doctoral degree in international development and management at Victoria University, Melbourne Australia in 2003. Her doctoral research project assessed the management of development organizations and discussed stakeholder factors affecting these organizations.

Dr Kiraka has worked as a program manager for two years and as a development management consultant for three years. As a program manager, her experience included planning, scheduling and setting budgets for projects and overseeing implementation, monitoring and evaluation of community development projects. Other responsibilities included ensuring proper financial accountability in all program activities, ensuring proper personnel and resource utilization and management, conducting staff performance appraisals and liaising with government departments and other non-governmental organizations involved in developmental work.

As a consultant, her responsibilities included providing advice to organizations in managerial functions such as strategic planning and staffing as well as fundraising activities. Others included conducting community needs assessment, staff training in development management, development research and report writing.

She aspires to make a contribution to business education in Kenya through academic and business research, publishing and teaching. In addition, she hopes to provide business counseling services to entrepreneurs of micro, small and medium enterprises in starting and managing their businesses.
