Otieno

Hellen Otieno holds MA Degree (Economics) from Kenyatta University. She is a lecturer at Strathmore University. As a lecturer her main responsibilities include lecturing in economics related units and supervision of students’ research projects. She is a member of the Faculty of Commerce executive committee. As a member of the faculty executive committee, she contributes to the day to day running of the faculty and the faculty policies.

As a lecturer in the Faculty of Commerce at Strathmore University, she has participated in the development of a Masters of Commerce (MCOM) Programme and the Faculty’s Strategic Plan. She has also participated in the review of BCOM curriculum in order to meet the ever changing industry needs. She has attended several seminars and conferences organized both within and outside Strathmore University.  In 2005 she attended an All Africa Case Teaching Workshop at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), University of Pretoria, South Africa. 

Ms Otieno taught in various secondary schools in Kenya and rose to the level of a Head of Department.  As a Head of Department, she was responsible for co- coordinating the activities of the department, allocation of workload of teachers in the department and the day to day running of the department.

As part of her interest in fostering a strong link between the industry and academic institutions, she participated in the development of Proficiency Examinations Curriculum for the Capital Markets Authority (Kenya). She aspires to contribute to the enhancement of self employment among the youth by mentoring young entrepreneurs who wish to start and operate their own businesses.

Ms Otieno is currently pursuing her PhD in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development.
