Dr Freddie Acosta is an IT professional and educator at Strathmore University in Nairobi. He was appointed as full time senior lecturer in June 2004 in the faculty of information technology. Recently he was appointed as program coordinator of the university’s bachelor of business information technology program, a degree offered to more than 350 students. In this role, Dr Acosta is responsible for the entire BBIT curriculum and courses syllabus and student’s community and industrial attachments.

Dr Acosta has enjoyed a distinguished career at different collages and universities in the Philippines. Prior to his coming to Strathmore University, he had served as head and associate professor at Olivarez college department of computer science. He was also a visiting associate professor at Mapua institute of technology and lyceum of the Philippines. He has held many administrative positions in the past. He was the academic dean of STI College and the department head of university of Baguio’s department of computer engineering and computer science.

Before joining the education sector, dr. Acosta had served in the private sector and managed his own companies. At the age of 24 he became the first president and general manager of Libaco Mushucom Corporation, a company that offered music, shuttle and computer services. Two years later, he put up and managed his own Arfred Enterprise that made tie-ups with private primary and secondary schools in order to assist the latter incorporate computer education in their curriculum under the build-operate-transfer scheme of the government. He also acted as system network engineer of Northway’s Computer for more than 2 years.

In addition to his professional duties, he is a member of the regional quality assessment team (RQAT) of the Philippines commission on higher education to evaluate the readiness and the capabilities of collages and universities wishing to offer IT courses. He is also a member of the pool of trainers for oracle database administration track- virtual centers for technological innovation program of the information technology foundation of the Philippines and department of science and technology.

Dr Acosta has research interests in strategic information technology, development education, queuing theory, business technology, engineering management and hardware system design.
