Catherine Dean

Ms Dean has a BA degree in Economics and English Literature from University College Dublin (Ireland) and a   Masters in Theology from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross (Rome). She has spent 12 years teaching Philosophy and Theology at an International Study Center in Rome where she came into contact with many students from around the world.

She was also the Head Librarian at the Study Center over a period of 8 years during which she acquired experience in directing and managing the people and resources involved in developing a library of over 25,000 books. Since November 2004 Ms Dean has been Adjunct Lecturer at Strathmore University, where she collaborates with the Institute of Humanities, Education and Development Studies (IHEDS), lecturing in Ethics to the undergraduate students from the Faculties of Commerce and Information Technology.

Over the years, Ms Dean has published a number of book reviews and articles on philosophical and theological issues. She is currently working on developing case studies for use in her Ethics units as she considers that these courses need to be taught in an effective and practical manner. The aim of the Ethics courses she offers is to have a positive influence on the lives of the students and really contribute to preparing future leaders who are capable of thinking and acting in a truly ethical manner, particularly in the context of their professional work. In this way, through IHEDS, Ms Dean is collaborating with Strathmore University in training people who, it is to be hoped, will work for the benefit of the whole nation.

She is also a member of the Library Development Committee at Strathmore University, which aims at fostering the on-going growth and development of Library resources to serve a University that is currently in the process of further expansion.
