INTRODUCTION TO FIT
The Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) is one of the main faculties of Strathmore University. The overall vision of the Faculty is to be a world class program renowned for its high quality of teaching, learning and research both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The undergraduate curriculum is based on scientific principles and fundamentals that are applied to integrate technology, information and people to create knowledge that contributes to our culture, economic well-being and quality of life. The graduate programs produce top professionals that offer cutting-edge research, innovation and scholarship. To be successful, the Faculty depends on partnerships that start with staff members and students and extends university-wide and to other institutions and organizations in Kenya and around the world.

VISION
Our Vision is to be a world-class ICT trainer, promoting integration between academia, research and industry in order to promote assimilation and use of technology in business environment in an atmosphere of high ethical and professional performance

MISSION
Our mission is to be a leading teaching, training and research department, offering superior quality and affordable academic, professional training, and research in information and communication technology (ICT), promoting entrepreneurship and business growth nationally and internationally.

Our values espouse academic freedom, diversity, creativity, innovativeness, excellence, integrity, professionalism, and equitable access to resources in the achievement of our objectives.

STRATEGIC PLAN
The strategic goals for the Faculty of Information Technology include the following:
1.    Design and maintain high quality programs in ICT
2.    Attract and select highly qualified students
3.    Attract, select and retain highly qualified academic & administrative staff
4.    Produce high quality graduates for the ICT industry
5.    Build and encourage a productive research culture
6.    Build and promote partnerships with academia, industry and community
7.    Increase access and retention of bright students through grants and scholarships

PROGRAMS
Presently, the Faculty has two Masters Programs; one Bachelors Program with two more coming up next in July, 2010; one Diploma Program; and several short courses offering IT skills to various categories of students. The short courses are offered through a unit of the Faculty known as the Information Technology Center (ITC). The following is a list of programs offered:

Certificate in Computer Application (CCA)
Certificate in Computer Programming (CCP)
Certificate in Computerized Accounting (CCAcc)
Certificate in Computer Networking (CCN)
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

RESEARCH
The Faculty is involved in various research activities focusing on six thematic areas: Database Systems, Data Communications and Networks, Software Engineering, ICT for Development, Innovation and Technology Transfer and Information Systems and Management. In addition, the Faculty has started a technology and business incubation program known as the Strathmore Innovation and Technology Transfer (SITT).
