  Strathmore University becomes ISO 9001:2000 Certified

Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) is a local company that provides technical advice on quality management systemsISO Certificate presentation
to industry to facilitate efficient implementation of standards.

The key aspects of the ISO 9001:2000 standard include:

  • the identification of key business processes;
  • the structure for the quality management system and the processes that control and operate it;
  • the review and the provision of the resources needed to implement and improve the system, thus, staff, infrastructure, equipment and the laboratory environment;
  • the framework for managing work and the measurement of the system's performance, analysis and the identification of the areas for improvement. In short, the application of good professional and work practices and meeting the requirements of the customers.

Speech extracts by Eng. J. M. Masila, Managing Director Kenya Bureau of Standards, during the handing over ceremony of ISO 9000 Certificate to Strathmore University .

As a summary to the certification process, Eng. J.M Masila noted that Strathmore University had met the requirements of the ISO 9001:2000 standard and was now operating at the same high standard as other accredited institutions in the world.

Eng. J.M Masila further expressed his appreciation for the fact that Strathmore University was the first institution of higher learning to be awarded the ISO 9001:2000 accreditation, thus joining a fraternity of over 430,000 organizations in 158 countries who use ISO to ensure quality management.

"Today marks a historic point for ISO 9001:2000 Certifications in our country; Strathmore University has become the first Institution of Higher Education to be certified to this standard of Quality Excellence in Management Systems."

As a closing remark, Eng. J.M Masila encouraged the University management to look for other areas where the system could be certified.
