SUITSA donates computers to Mama Ngina Children's Home
The Strathmore University Information Technology Students Association (SUITSA) members on 28th January 2011 gave computers to Mama Ngina Children’s Home in South C. The donation completed the club’s community outreach project of enhancing the computer skills at the home.
The project began in April 2010. See: http://www.strathmore.edu/News.php?NewsID=333
When SUITSA members taught IT skills to the children at the home, one of the problems they encountered was lack of versatile computers that could handle current applications. The club drafted proposals and sent them out to various companies and organizations, including the IT Department of the University.
The IT Department gave three computers. SUITSA contributed around KShs4000 to buy memory (RAM) that the computers required for normal functioning. The club is still in search of more sponsors so that the rest of the non-current computers can be replaced, especially to enable internet access at the home.
The handover event was also graced by the Mozilla Foundation (Kenya Chapter) which gave out branded T-shirts, straps and armbands to the participating students as well as the children at the home.
SUITSA Club intends to empower other children’s homes and less endowed learning institutions in same manner, in line with its mission: Promoting ICT in societies, changing lives.
