When SUITSA visited Mathare Valley
SUITSA (Strathmore University I.T. Students Association) visited the Good Samaritan Children’s Home
on Saturday, 27th November. Located in the sprawling Mathare Valley slum, the home is resident to over 100 children from the slum, some of whom are AIDS orphans.
The visit was organised by Alex Kasimu and Raymond Onyango (SUITSA’s Activities Manager) who happen to hail from the Valley.
Amid the heavy rain and the chilly weather that morning, SUITSA club members endeavored to give warmth to the children. They played with them and assisted in household chores, and had one-on-one talks with the children.
Despite their plight, the children were very happy to host the club. SUITSA donated food, clothing (collected through a clothes-drive in the University) and some funds to the home. Mrs Mercy Thuo, the Director of the Home could not hide her joy. “We have come this far because of people like you. God bless you, God bless you and God bless you!” she exclaimed.
Some members of AISEC also joined SUITSA for the visit. The two clubs will work together with other clubs in the University to contribute towards the welfare of the Home, and put a smile on the faces of the children this Christmas.
This is the third activity SUITSA carried out at children’s home as part of its charitable activities this year. It ran an IT training activity at Mama Ngina Children’s Home in South C from April to June where its members taught the children IT skills.
It will in partnership with the Faculty of Information Technology and the University’s ICT Department contribute some computers to the Home just before Christmas. SUITSA also visited St Monica’s Children’s Home in Thika.
