When COP distributed food and clothes in Makueni District The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. That is one lesson that can be drawn from the efforts of COP (Community Outreach Club) Club.

By selling raffle tickets, COP raised enough money to buy 22 sacks of maize, and 15 bales of flour for the people of Kathonzweni Division, Makueni District. The Club also got four boxes of clothes and stationery from well wishers. These items which were given to the people of Kathonzweni on 31st January.
120 students made the trip to Kathonzweni Catholic Church where people from the surrounding villages had gathered. Looking the gathering, it was difficult to tell they were experiencing famine. But a little probing brought harrowing stories of hunger. An elderly lady related how the people there resort to eating wild herbs and even go to the extent of boiling unripe mangoes to to silence their hunger pangs.
COP also visited Kathonzweni Children’s Home. As well as giving food, COP also donated stationery and the clothes to the Home. Members also spent time singing, dancing and playing with the children. It was a day well spent. |
