Achiever with a big heart Cyrus Matheka Wambua is certainly an academic achiever. The third year Medicine and Surgery student combined the CPA section 5 and 6 in December 2008 and emerged the best overall in among the candidates who combined the sections.
The former Makueni High School student pursued CPA at Strathmore because he was awarded a European Union scholarship. “Without the scholarship, I would honestly not have made it to Strathmore and I would not be whom I am today. I am very grateful for the scholarship,” he said.
A founder member of Strathmore's Community Outreach Club (COP) and now the treasurer of AMSUN (Association of Medical Students of the University of Nairobi), Cyrus is keen to contribute to Strathmore's bursary kitty and help needy students. He is also looking forward to partner in other activities at Strathmore in future.
I urge students who have completed high school not to wait until they join university but to use that opportunity to do a course like CPA or ACCA to widen their career base. "Many people ask me the link between medicine and accountancy. The truth is my exposure to accountancy is a strong foundation for my medical studies in health system management, and biostatistics. It is also the basis for my plan to go into the management and hopefully the revolutionization of the health sector in future," Cyrus said.
Cyrus' academic record is sterling. He was ranked the:
- Best student in Section 5 & 6 (combined) in December 2008 KASNEB examinations
- Best student in Section 5 in December 2008 KASNEB examinations
- Best student in Section 3 & 4 (combined) in June 2007 KASNEB examinations
- Best student in Management Accounting in December 2008 KASNEB examinations
- Top student in the School of Accountancy, Strathmore University during the January-June 2006 semester
- Tenth best student nationally in the KCSE examination in 2005 sitting
