The FIT Alumni Chapter is phenomenal in bringing together Alumni who studied IMIS, DBIT, BBIT, Msc IT and IS and more recently BTC and BIF. The chapter committee recently expanded to include younger Alumni to meet the interests of all.
Chairperson: Janet Mackenzie
Janet began her career in 2005 at Hospitality Systems Consultants as an Assistant Technical Manager and was responsible for the technical department workflow processes, and enhancing efficient and effective system implementation processes for potential growth of the company as a hospitality solutions support hub.
Following successive promotions, she is currently a director at Hospitality Systems Consultants Limited and is responsible for the company operations. For the last ten years, she has led various project implementations, providing customer relationship management, projects financial strategy and ICT security systems solutions in the company and for the potential clients in the hospitality industry.
As the company grew, Ms. Janet has also lead the opening of other country offices operations and is a director at Otrum South (Pty) and Hospitality Systems Mauritius Limited.
Ms. Janet is also an executive director at Pinetech Limited that provides high-speed internet solutions and management software to the hospitality industry. She oversees its financial and operational strategies as a subsidiary company of Hospitality Systems Consultants Limited. She is also a co-founder for Nutrimmune Limited in partnership with a Norwegian based food supplements manufacturer to supply a growing demand for Norwegian fish oil based supplements to the African market.
She has also served as a part-time lecturer at Strathmore Faculty of Information Technology until recently when she took a break to undertake on her Phd program research.
In her community work, she is serving as an assistant patron at Uhola Primary School, Siaya County and also a startup member for a community-based SACCO in Ugenya, Siaya County. She is also the interim chair Faculty of Information Technology Alumni Chapter at Strathmore University.
Ms. Janet graduated from Strathmore University, where she received a master’s degree in Information Management and a bachelor degree with honors in Information Technology Communication from United States International University-Africa. Additionally, she earned a Project Leadership certificate from Cornell University and Women in Leadership Learning Series Executive Education from Strathmore University.
Vice Chairperson: Stephen Omondi
Stephen is a Health Informatics Fellow of the Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases, University of Nairobi. He is also a pioneer graduate of Strathmore University’s Master of Science in Computer Based Information Systems. Stephen is an academician and informaticist with a wealth of experience in training and program management.
Currently he is the Program Manager at the University of Nairobi HIV Capacity Building Fellowship. This is a program funded by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Program is implemented by University of Nairobi as the prime partner in collaboration with the University of Washington (UW) and Management Sciences for Health (MSH).
Christine Njeri Maina is a Master of Science in IT Graduate class of 2016, Strathmore University. She is also a graduate of Bachelor of Business Information Technology class of 2014 from the same university. Christine is an experienced administrator with the hope of joining research and teaching in due course.
Currently she is the Faculty Administrator in charge of Bachelor of Science in Informatics and Computer Science & Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications at the Strathmore University Faculty of IT.
Treasurer-Omondi Kevin Ochieng’
Kevin Ocheing’ is an alumni of Strathmore University. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Informatics Degree. He was a scholarship student and believes that only hard work is the key to success. Kevin went to a village primary school (Mbaga Mixed Primary School) in Siaya County and later went to St. Mary’s School Yala. Currently, He is a Masters student doing MSIT, a fulltime software developer at Strathmore Hp Research Lab and a part – time lecturer at the Faculty of information technology. His advice to everyone is that we should always chase our dreams and it all starts by simply believing in ourselves, thus stay hungry, stay foolish – Steve Jobs.
Post Graduate Representative: Dr. Paul Morumbwa
Dr. Paul O. Morumbwa is a practising dental surgeon, scholar who has a background in Health Sciences, Dental Surgery and Information Systems complemented with volunteer experience in humanitarian organisations such as Red Cross where he is a life member. Dr. Morumbwa graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Nairobi and also holds a Master of Science in Computer-Based Information Systems from Strathmore University and has an interest in pursuing Health Informatics in future. He is passionate about usage of science in fostering development and has also served as dental surgeon in both government and private sector. He is currently the dental surgeon and head of Dental Department at The Nairobi West Hospital. He is a health researcher at iLabAfrica (Strathmore University).He has a keen interest in visioning and execution of scientific projects from inception to implementation and able to provide frameworks that analyse complex scientific situations and transform them into simple strategic imperatives.
