When Mercy Ndegwa graduated from Strathmore School of Accountancy years back she immediately knew that the Strathmore experience had given her an edge and readied her for her present position as the Manager of public policy analysis and international relations at Safaricom. Part of her responsibility in the mobile giant company is to advise the business on public policy matters and provide analytical information that is useful for decision making.
Of her years at Strathmore, Mercy fondly remembers how the University spoke quality and groomed her to be an all rounded person.
“My experience in Strathmore was just ‘wow.’ It was the place I needed to be; I met some incredible people there that were influential in my career formation.”
Years later, Mercy remembers the many options that Strathmore offered, and the passion with which students participated in activities. The experience continues to give her enormous respect for community service and is the reason why she wants to improve society by engaging in projects in which she can apply her experience and expertise in different communities.
A wife and a mother of one with new baby on the way, Mercy strongly recommends that fresh graduates grow an all round personality so as to make an easy transition into the corporate world. She stresses that nothing is permanent, opportunities are never lost and are just transferred so young graduates should seize their opportunities.
Mercy has since returned to Strathmore for a parenting course at the Business School and looks forward to take up a second Masters degree.
