National Bank CEO Mr. Munir Sheikh Ahmed was the guest speaker at this year’s School of Accountancy Alumni Chapter public lecture. The lecture was entitled ‘Entrepreneurship – an avenue of Achieving Excellence.’
Mr. Ahmed pointed out three critical success factors as Personal integrity, Guts to take risk and enabling factors like skills. Within that framework, entrepreneurs should look to solve a problem that exists, have skills & passion to execute and have tenacity (be brave).
Mr. Ahmed argued that entrepreneurship is not necessarily about re-inventing the wheel but finding a more efficient way of doing old things. He gave the example of people who now run messenger services with motorbikes, a service that many companies are now outsourcing. Not only are they more efficient, they have also created employment for many.
He pointed out how at times education may appear to be a hindrance towards people being entrepreneurs, citing a comparison between him and his brother (A successful Entrepreneur)!
Other key aspects include research, interest and determination.
Entrepreneurship is not a gamble as some think, neither is it inborn, it is about turning a problem into an opportunity.
He concluded by noting that Business must be enjoyable to the entrepreneur if it’s going to be successful. Entrepreneurship gives one an opportunity to do what he or she loves!
