Wangui Kamau was in the pioneering Bachelor of Commerce class that completed in 2004. She now runs Glitteratti Events, a wedding planning and cake baking business in South B area and is planning to open a branch in the city centre. So far, she has three employees.
Glitterati means glitter. It stands for the outstanding and that’s what she wants her business to reflect.
Her motivation to organize wedding events comes from the fact that the marriage institution comes from God. She is proud to play a part in helping this divine institution.
Wangui is a member of Strathmore Alumni Entrepreneurs Network (SAEN), a club that was launched in 2009 by alumni of SU who are entrepreneurs. The club has held 2 reunions and this year they are holding business talks, the first being this Saturday, 11th February 2012 in the auditorium from 10am.
She encourages entrepreneurs to hold forums where they can share ideas, talk about their challenges and take advice from each other. “In this network, we share the same sentiments, we talk to each other and especially since we graduated from the same University where we learnt values that prepared us to face the world,” she said.
Wangui is married to Mr Jomo Kamau, also an IMIS alumnus of Strathmore.
