York St. John University (YSJ): Started in 2009, the partnership has been very beneficial in the introduction of Learner Centered Method of teaching in Strathmore University.  More information on York St. John can be obtained from www.yorksj.ac.uk.

Strathmore University has partnered with YSJ university in hosting Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PCAP). PCAP is concerned with learning at Masters level.  York St. John University in conjunction with the British Council has been offering the Post graduate Certificate in Academic Practice in Africa since 2007.  The aim of PCAP is to equip staff who are involved with facilitating student learning, including Professors, Lecturers, Researchers and all those who support learning, with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to become highly professional, creative and effective faculty.  The following table shows involvement of PCAP in Africa at a glance;

Specifically the PCAP is designed to:

  • provide a qualification in learning and teaching in higher education, accredited by the UK Higher Education Academy (HEA)
  • encourage and develop scholarship relating to teaching, learning and assessment.
  • support reflection upon and critical engagement with underlying theories, values and assumptions in educational practice.
  • enable staff to collect evidence of their work in teaching, learning and assessment, forming the basis of well-targeted, effective and co-ordinated continuing professional development.
  • provide a forum for sharing the best practice, either to lead participants to the Certificate or to provide appropriate support for academic roles related to student learning.

The PCAP is committed to:
