Academic Development Staff Programme
ASDP is a programme that was developed by the Academic Development Unit (ADU) after the lecturers realized that there was need for them to develop professionally. Initially Certificate in Lectureship course had been offered to some lecturers; a few graduated. The ADU members felt that there was need to conduct focus groups to develop a program which was suitable to all lecturers. The target groups for the course were both fulltime and part-time lecturers. In order to assess the usefulness of the last Certificate of Lectureship Course and to gather ideas from the lecturers for the next edition of the course, the ADU decided to hold focus group discussions with lecturers from School of Accountancy (SOA), Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) and Faculty of Commerce (FOC).
From the Focus groups, the following took place;
- The name of the course changed to Academic Development Staff Programme (ASDP)
- Curriculums for Module 1 and 2 were designed with clear objectives, outcomes and assessment procedures putting in mind the various suggestions from the focus groups.
- Long, intensive sessions have been organized by ADU since May 2009 where ASDP module 1 and 2 have been taught to almost all lecturers’s of Strathmore University. Teaching manuals for the two modules were provided.
- Peer review has been ongoing since May 2009.
- ASDP module 3 will be organized as lunchtime seminars form June 2011.
