Post-Graduate Diploma in Educational Management
Since 2002 the University has been running short 3-day courses for teachers in the area of educational management. Over 1500 teachers from all over the republic have attended these courses. From an evaluative follow-up course run in April 2004 it is clear that there has been a positive impact in the field. The participants at these seminars are keen on a postgraduate course in educational management. These findings provide the University with practical motivation for the development of the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Management (PGDEM). The PGDEM is intended to prepare schoolteachers with substantial classroom experience to develop skills in the field of Educational Management.
Rationale for the PGDEM programme
- The Diploma meets the need to give Kenyan teachers courses in aspects of human formation, and leadership and management skills. There are a number of individuals in the education field with a first degree but no training in education. There are also many people holding positions of direction in schools with no leadership or management training. The PGDEM will provide good training for middle and senior-school management as well as for classroom teachers.
- The Postgraduate Diploma is well focused on the development of the person, leading to the skills needed for running schools and turning them into attractive learning environments.
