  School of Administration and Management

The Diploma in Leadership and Management (DLM) prepares you to work in middle management, administration, enterprise development, consultancy, and other related fields. The curriculum develops your leadership capabilities by assessing and expanding your management skills.

The course focuses on exploring and understanding contemporary management and leadership issues and lays emphasis on action, observation, analysis and reflection, thereby offering you the participant a unique opportunity to apply what you learn to your job.

Programme Objectives
  • To develop the leadership and management capability of students so that they can increase their personal effectiveness and increase the value of their contribution to business performance.
  • To help students to solve real management problems using action learning approach.
  • To equip students with an understanding of organizations, organization management and the changing external environment in which they operate.
  • To introduce students to the broad range of academic subjects that constitute management studies.
  • To enhance self-confidence in aspiring managers.
  • To develop students ability to critically evaluate challenges facing organization management and formulate apt solutions.
  • To prepare the students for progression to higher levels of study.
Target Groups
  • Trained professionals in non-management disciplines who have an interest in developing a career in Management.
  • Individuals in the management industry with basic qualifications (e.g. certificate holders) who desire to progress to Diploma and eventually to degree level.
Admission Requirements

To gain admission to the Leadership and Management Diploma class, you must satisfy any of the following minimum requirements:

(a) Hold a KCSE qualification (or equivalent examination) with a minimum aggregate of C+ and a minimum of C in both Mathematics and English, or

(b) Hold a KACE qualification with a minimum of two subsidiary passes and a minimum of a credit pass in Mathematics and English at KCE, or

(c) Hold a professional certificate in Business Management or a relevant discipline from an institution recognized by the Academic Council of the University and a minimum aggregate of a C in KCSE with a C in Mathematics and English, or

(d) Be a holder of any other qualification accepted by the Academic Council of the University as equivalent to any of the above.

Entrance Examination

The interviews will be held every Tuesday at 8.00am in the following months:
May Intake - January to April
September Intake - June to August

What to bring: 3 passport size photographs, original and copy of Result Slip and School Leaving Certificate, Kshs. 500 entrance examination fee.
Duration and Structure
  • The programme is offered in terms of modules, each module comprising a series of 45 contact hours.
  • The course is divided in two parts; Stage I and Stage II. Each Stage comprises ten modules.
  • The programme runs for a period of five semesters.
  • To qualify for the award of the Diploma, a candidate must take and pass all the twenty course modules.
