Microfinance Seminar Presentations
The Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) was set up to fulfill a number of functions namely:
SACCO Training
- Customised SACCO training programs - have been developed with the SACCO operational needs specifically in mind. The main aim to be achieved from the 9 modules is to equip students with the current skills and tools to increase efficiency and enhance management skills of SACCO staff members.
- SWAMI - The World Council of Credit Unions, along with the Strathmore University, has developed a comprehensive training program for senior management staff, aspiring managers and board members. SWAMI is designed to give SACCO board members and management the inside track in achieving career success.
Microfinance Training
The Microfinance Diploma Programme was developed as a result of a tripartite agreement between Strathmore University, Swisscontact and the Association of Microfinance Institutions (AMFI)aims at providing participants with the basic skills in microfinance and exposing them to effective ways of managing microfinance operations. The programme is designed to meet individual and corporate training needs of the microfinance Industry in general and the lecturers for the programme are drawn from staff members in the University and practitioners from the microfinance industry.
Business Oriented Courses
To train in business-oriented courses in management functions. These are demand driven courses for client groups in industry and business in the fields of:
- Finance
- Accounting
- Tax
- Management of Information Systems
- Management-Technical skills
- Customised capacity building courses
ICE has available teaching and administrative staff plus support staff. The University as a whole provides the Institute center with a team of experienced consultants committed to providing high quality services, drawing on resources from the different schools. In addition, other experts, working in various industries or teaching at the public universities, lecture on a part-time basis here.
ICE started as the Corporate Training Department, which was a part of the Information Technology Centre in 1998. It became an independent in 2002 and was renamed Institute of Continuing Education in May 2003.
