The Distance Learning Centre offers following courses:
Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
To qualify as a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), you will have to demonstrate that in addition to passing the examinations, you have met the ACCA's practical experience requirements. Both forms of assessment focus on your ability to satisfy the technical, managerial, interpersonal and ethical requirements of the role of professional accountants.
The practical experience requirements have been defined in terms of competence, which defines standards of performance or best practices for activities within five key roles: financial and regulatory obligations, taxation, business and audit, and management.
Minimum Qualifications
- A-Level (at least 2 Principal passes)
- University Degree from a recognised university
- IMIS (Institute for the Management of Information Systems) Parts I and II holders
- ABE Certificate (Association of Business Executives)
- CPA Parts I and II holders
- Diplomas from a recognised polytechnic, e.g. Kenya Polytechnic
Mature Student Entry Route (MSER)
- Normally over age 21
- no academic qualifications required
- must pass the equivalent of Papers F2, Management Accounting and F3, Financial Accounting within two years before further progression to the ACCA exams is permitted.
Graduate-entry route
- Relevant degree holders from ACCA-accredited institutions may be exempted from all nine exams within the Fundamentals level and register directly at the Professional level. Degrees with some relevance may also qualify for exemptions
Access to ACCA via CAT qualification
- no academic qualifications required
- sit Certified Accounting Technician
- (CAT) qualification first and then transfer to the Skills module of the ACCA Qualification by claiming exemption from the first three papers in the Knowledge module.
Exemptions
Exemptions are subject to the discretion of ACCA Board.
ACCA Course Structure
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
This is a professional Accountancy course offered by the University to those wishing to take Accountancy as a career. This course prepares students for the examinations of the Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examination Board (KASNEB). For more details on this course please click here.
Certified Public Secretary (CPS)
The CPS course is a professional course for those who wish to become Company Secretaries, offered by the same examination body as the CPA, the Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examination Board (KASNEB). Minimum requirements for this course are exactly the same as that of the CPA course.
The CPS course has six Sections. However, the University offers ALL Sections (1-6).
Kenya Accounting Technician Certificate (KATC)
The KATC course is an Accountancy course offered by KASNEB as a stepping stone to the more demanding and advanced CPA course. The course is done in two stages: the Intermediate Stage and the Final Stage.
On successful completion of this course a Certificate is awarded.
Students who complete this course can then enroll for the CPA course and are exempted from Section 2.
The minimum requirements for this course are:
- an average grade of D+ (D Plus) in KCSE.
- a minimum grade of D+ (D Plus) in both Maths and English.
