  Chaplaincy

Strathmore University tries to live up to the original meaning of the word University: a unity in diversity.  Hence the relevance of our motto: 'that all may be one' through the sharing of knowledge, the cultivation of virtue, and the service of persons.

This explains Strathmore's abiding interest in ethics and morals, as overseen by its chaplains. This interest is shown in the solemn attention paid to religious traditions, especially our own Catholic Christian tradition, but open to all the great religious traditions, with utmost respect for individual freedom and personal dignity.

Because of this openness, the Chapel is available to all, regardless of their creed, as a place of prayer.  In addition, non-Christian students have a room which they use for prayer.

With full respect for academic freedom and the different religious traditions, the university chaplains also collaborate with the Institute of Humanities, Education and Development Studies in giving ethics classes to the students.

The Chaplain and his assistants also run the activities of the Chapel, which include:

Chapel
  • Daily Mass at 12.30p.m. from Monday to Friday, and at 10.30a.m. on Saturday
  • Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament on Thursday at 7.50a.m.
  • Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from1.10p.m. to 2.00p.m. on first Fridays of the month
  • Chaplains Talk from 1.40p.m. to 2.00p.m. on Tuesday for men and on Wednesday for women
  • Confessions: Monday to Friday 12.00p.m. to 2.30 p.m., and 4.30p.m. to 5.30p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Also from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

The Chaplain and his assistants are normally available in their offices for consultation. Appointments can also be made with them directly. The Chaplain is a Catholic priest and the spiritual guidance in the University is entrusted to Opus Dei, a Personal Prelature of the Catholic Church.

  • Books that can be used for prayer and spiritual reading are available in the Chapel library.
  • Chaplaincy announcements are posted on the Chaplaincy notice board.
