Ten students who applied for loans to buy laptops and tuition fee through the
Kiva website got the loans just a few hours after their profiles were posted on Kiva’s website although the loans have up to 30 days to get funded. One can see the KIVA loans available for Strathmore students
here.
For more information as to how to receive a laptop, full or partial tuition loan through Kiva, please contact the Financial Aid Desk in the Admissions Department.
Students who will receive the loans created their own profiles by writing their stories and providing a photograph of themselves with the help of the Financial Aid Desk in the Admissions Department.
These profiles were then uploaded onto kiva.org where Kiva lenders are able to read the student’s stories and contribute to their loan. Go here to see the students who were funded and to check out the new profiles of other Strathmore students applying for laptop and partial tuition loans.
This marks the beginning of what is hoped to be a very fruitful partnership between Strathmore and Kiva with the full tuition, partial tuition and laptop loans that are being offered to needy students.
Kiva is an organization whose mission is to connect people in order to alleviate poverty. Kiva.org allows anyone in the world to support microfinance by giving a loan of $25 USD or 1,942 KES to support an entrepreneur or a student.
Kiva loans are made possible by field partners who vet, administer, and disburse each loan. Strathmore is Kiva’s pioneer partner in the field of higher education loans.
